We want to make you aware of a potential security issue that may affect the security of your personal computers and your business network environment. This issue warrants your immediate attention.
The Department of Homeland Security has issued a warning urging Windows users to uninstall QuickTime from their computers.
A once popular multimedia framework developed by Apple Inc., capable of handling various formats of digital video, picture, and sound will no longer be supported on Windows PCs. Apple will therefore no longer be providing security updates for QuickTime for Windows, leaving this software vulnerable to exploitation. There are currently at least two know vulnerabilities in QuickTime for Windows. Patches will not be released by Apple as the product is now no longer supported. Exploitation of QuickTime for Windows vulnerabilities could allow remote attackers to take control of affected systems.
If you are currently utilizing our proactive remote monitoring service:
We will scan those computers covered by the service and notify you if QuickTime is installed on any of the devices so that corrective action can be taken.
If you are not currently utilizing our proactive remote monitoring service:
We recommend that you examine each windows-based computer and remove QuickTime if it is currently installed.
Please contact us if we can be of assistance.
